Présentation - Son caractère
Le leonberg est gentil mais n'aime pas les hurlements des petits chiens!
S'il est classé dans un groupe de " chiens de travail " composé de races spécialisées dans la protection des troupeaux ( Montagne des Pyrénées) le Léonberg n'a pas de vocation utilitaire.
La plus intéressante caractéristique de la race est son absence de spécialisation. Bien que son corps dénote la force et la musculature d'un chien de travail, le leonberg a toujours été élévé et sélectionné pour son tempérament équilibré de chien de famille(j'en parle plus bas).
Il a un besoin permanent de ses maîtres. Le leonberg déborde de tendresse pour son maître. Quand celui-ci rentre à la maison, il est accueilli par des bonds de joie se terminant par la pose des deux antérieurs sur les épaules et un débarbouillage en règle. avant de retourner sagement dans son coin favori.
Le Léonberg est un membre de la famille.
